SHSally Hein, director of sales at Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa has lived on the Gold Coast for 20 years and has seen so many changes both from a local and from business events destination.  A penchant for good food, a great cocktail and checking out new running routes, we ask Sally for her top tips when visiting the ever-changing Gold Coast!

MJD: How long have you lived on the Gold Coast and what brought you there?
SH: Twenty years – my boyfriend at the time was from there…now my husband, so love and sunshine was a hard combo to beat!

MJD: Which beaches do you like and why?
SH: Burleigh Beach – beautiful beach plus a great food scene there as well

MJD: How long have you been at Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort and what do you love about it?
SH: I’ve been at Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort for 2 years now.  I love their passion for the MICE industry and the innovations they have created such as ‘Meetings Imagined’ and the Marriott Meeting Services App that make meetings & event planning with the Marriott so easy. Any changes to the program can be done through the app – no wandering around looking for a Banquets person….a few of our photos!

MJD: What do you love about living on the Gold Coast?
SH: I love the food scene the GC has going on right now.  So many fabulous places to eat and experience world class cuisine and service.  The weather makes living here so easy too.  Even winter is blue skies and crisp clean air and of course the beaches!

MJD: STAY  | Surfers Paradise Marriott for either conference or play….situated on Northern Tip of Surfers Paradise, 28 level 5-star resort with 304 rooms and suites offering Hinterland & Ocean views. Dedicated conference floor with 9 meeting rooms and ballroom for up to 800 theatre style.  Our new bar overlooking the pool makes a mean martini, Chapter & Verse Bar & Lounge, Citrique Restaurant award-winning Seafood Restaurant & Misono Teppanyaki Restaurant.  The resort also boasts a lagoon style salt water swimming pool featuring man-made coral reef, waterfall and 300 tropical fish – perfect for beautiful poolside events.

EAT | Misono for my Japanese fix, Mamasan, Broadbeach (for the pork Bao and lamb ribs), Bonita Bonita, Mermaid Beach for a Mexican hit and the fresh seafood at Citrique is exceptional!
DRINK | Chapter and Verse, House of Brews

SHOP | The newly redeveloped Pacific Fair – out of this world!

MJD: As a Melbournian, we are fussy about our coffee so where do you get great coffee?
SH:  A very cool new cafe called “Counter” in Merrimac – great coffee – as listed in the 5 new cool cafes to check out and Top 10 Coffee Finds

MUST DO’s | Purlingbrook falls bush walk, the Gold Coast half marathon (hubby and I ran this year and the atmosphere is fabulous!), a relaxing beach walk along our pristine coastline

Thanks Sally for your great tips & ideas!
